This product was put into motion after thinking about the irony of making an ashtray from disposable vapes. Through my friend group I saw the ever growing popularity of these plastic vapes. What started as a product just for my close friends developed into a beautiful homeware product and my be the first design tackling the waste of which disposable vapes are rapidly generating. Each ashtray is 150 g of ABS plastic which roughly equals 30 Cuvie vapes, making 30 these of ashtrays I was able to stop roughly 900 Vapes entering landfill. This design was birthed from irony but is now a product of awareness to show people there is a second life in waste through design.
Fisch Inc. is a bespoke design company helmed by Ash Fischer, located in Marrickville, Sydney. With a design focus on interior lighting and a recycled homewares, Fisch Inc. strive to explore the beauty in the mundane. By incorporating overlooked items such as cream canisters, disposable vapes and PVC elbows, into his designs, Ash’s products sit at the intersection of environmental consciousness and functional design. Drawing on aesthetic tropes from the 60s and 70s, including bold colour palettes and fluid shapes, Fisch Inc. create statement pieces that have gained an impressive following over the past two years. Going from strength to strength, Ash is excited to release a new range of designs later in the year. Ash would like to acknowledge that he lives and creates on the land of the Gadigal and Wangal people of the Eora nation. With this in mind, Fisch Inc. would to extend respect to elders past, present and emerging and celebrate the diversity of Aboriginal peoples and their ongoing cultures and connections to the lands and waters of NSW.
