This chair is a nod to nostalgia. It’s a scrapbook, covered in clothing that evokes vivid memories of my younger self. The opportunity to develop something for NEW ASSEMBLAGE sparked my interest immediately. It allowed me to draw on my skills as a stylist to create a physical object which reflects my lived experiences. By crafting this chair, I was able to extend my styling practice into a new realm, utilising repurposed clothes to imbue new meaning. Everything I own is a piece of my memory—'CUTE JEANS' is both sentimental and functional. As a stylist I view art and creativity as a visceral, and universally relevant concept. It should be enjoyed and interacted with every day, rather than regarded as some intangible notion. This chair is an embodiment of this ideology. In my own way, I like to think this work is pushing against the elitist ideas which lead some to consider art as inaccessible or untouchable.

Kevin is an experimental creative raised in Shanghai and Melbourne. With a Bachelor's degree in Communication Design, he has spent the last decade specialising in photography, styling and digital art. His projects draw inspiration from experiences across different urban and cultural environments. His work is often paradoxical, commenting on the nature of our world, and how, at times, life is absurd. He focuses on fashion and pop culture, combining glamour, humour and irony.
